SURGE, a five piece contemporary jazz group based in Jacksonville, Florida. The band was formed in 1990, who has been named several times over as the favorite contemporary jazz band for the northeast region, according to Clear Channel ‘s Smooth Jazz station WFSJ who quoted "Surge seems to be putting their stamp on the smooth jazz market."

Defining SURGE comes easy because of the rhythmic style. Mixing smooth jazz with a high energy edge is the recipe that has won the band a strong loyal following. All are original compositions which have a memorable style where the music can be easily followed as a toe tapping and hip swinging sound. Something for everyone has proven to be a factor of their success. Members of Surge, shares the limelight with their instruments as often they intertwine moving in and out of the melodies. Surge has the formula where their chemistry is easily identified when performing on stage. From the towering keyboards used on stage where the bottom is engulfed to where the bass and drums are so tightly knitted which makes it easy for the guitar and saxophone to volley back and forth while giving a dazzling performance.

Bringing us to the name SURGE. The group was named after a long day and night in the recording studio laying down several tracks. Hit with a power surge when an electrifying storm approached, we lost everything! After a few choice words, it was then decided to name the then unknown band Powersurge. From that we thought we would be mistaken for a rock-n-roll group so it was streamlined to SURGE. The first release debuted in 1993 titled "Too Hot To Sleep" following up with "Dreams" in 1996. It’s always exciting to play to a sold out crowd because they get so enthusiastic and want to take a piece of Surge home with them. So graciously of course, we sell them CD’s!

Currently, Surge is back in the studio laying down the final tracks of their third release due out in 2003. Sticking with what works, the Surge distinctive sound will remain the same, but the music itself remains original, exciting, smooth & ready for todays contemporary jazz market.
